Mauritius has got lots to offer as a destination for water sports: kite surfing, surf ski, SUP, waterski, scuba diving …. and deep sea fishing, a sport full of adrenaline, exhilaration and excitement, is integral part of the Mauritian nautical sport scene.
What is the best time of the year for the biggest variety of fish?
Fishermen are most successful between November and April. Big game fish patrol the deep waters around the reefs at this time of the year, such as blue and black marlin, sailfish, spearfish, yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tune, carangues, wahoos, dorados and bonitos.
TO CATCH THE BIGGEST FISH, YOU NEED A GOOD TECHNIQUE .... AND STRONG ARMS!
In order to catch a big game fish, you need special equipment and a little bit - or rather a lot - of strength. Deep sea fishing is not a relaxing exercise, but a sport full of excitement and strong emotions. You have to sense the fish, attract it and once caught, fight the often heavy catch to get it into the boat, against the currents and waves.
You need to be in good physical condition and have a lot of endurance to be successful, which makes this activity not only a pleasurable pastime for visitors of the island, but also a competitive sport of international reputation.
