Enjoy a spiritual experience in Mauritius.
Add a spiritual element to your journey in Mauritius. Hindus of Mauritius have their annual pilgrimage of Maha Shivaratree (the night of Lord Shiva). to Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao), sacred place of Mauritius. Like the Indian sacred river Ganges where Hindus purify, Grand Bassin is a sacred lake, a natural water basin of an ancient volcano.
Once a year, in February or March, thousands of pilgrims dressed in white walk from their homes to the sacred lake in the South of the island in honor of Shiva. Wearing their "kanwar" on their shoulders, these altars adorned with garlands and small mirrors, the crowd of pilgrims form an impressive sight.
For you, Maha Shivaratree is also a great opportunity to experience a rich natural site. This festival will take place from Thursday 27 to Friday, February 28, 2014.
