In the South of Mauritius, the Vanille Nature Reserve of the Mascarene Islands offers you the opportunity to discover the Mauritian flora on a 3.5 hectares terrain : palm trees, banana trees, giant bamboo and many animal species from all the Mascarene Island.
A walking tour will take you to admire more than 1,500 crocodiles of all ages and sizes, the largest weighing over 500kg! Crocodiles are not the only residents, there are also turtles, iguanas, geckos, chameleons and bats. A breeding center for giant Aldabra tortoises and a breeding station for over 500 turtles and other endangered species endangered complete the offer of the reserve. The oldest resident is the 90 year-old tortoise Domino, weighing in at 275kg!
The reserve also offers an insectarium, sheltering 23,000 species: butterflies, beetles, moths and many others and also a new aquarium to discover the aquatic fauna.
Finally, two museums reside on the reserve, one showing a number of animal displays, the other one a number of fossils.
